2008-2009 Teacher Assistant Program

The Teacher Assistant Position.
The Teacher Assistant at Pear Tree Point School is a full time faculty position designed to prepare recent college graduates, persons changing careers for teaching, or teachers returning to work.  Positions may be available in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. Our Teacher Assistant Coordinator serves as a mentor and provides instructional workshops throughout the year. Teacher Assistants work side-by-side with our Head Teachers, instruct small groups and support students in small classes.  When ready, Teacher Assistants also teach Core Knowledge, science or social studies units.  Teacher Assistants are expected to pursue their masters degree in education through a tuition reimbursement benefit. Area graduate schools include Teachers College, Columbia University, Fairfield University, Manhattanville College, Sacred Heart University, The University of Connecticut and others.

Compensation for the First Year Teacher Assistant is $22,000 plus tuition reimbursement for 2 courses or $3,000 whichever is higher.  Other benefits include group health insurance, life and long-term disability insurance, a 401(k)retirement plan, and a FLEX plan for unreimbursed medical and dependent day care expenses. The salary includes working one day per week in our extracurricular program.

Pear Tree Point School is a Pre-Kindergarten through grade five coeducational independent day school with small classes, strong curriculum and nurturing atmosphere. Our main campus is located on the Goodwives River adjacent to Long Island Sound in Darien, Connecticut. Our early childhood program (Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten) is housed at our second campus (259 Richards Avenue in Norwalk, Connecticut). Bachelor’s Degree, experience with children, history of personal accomplishment, caring manner and promise to be an outstanding teacher.

Substitute Teachers

Pear Tree Point School seeks substitute teachers for coverage in Pre-K through grade 5. Classrooms have a maximum of 15 students. A college degree is required.
