Knowledge Masters National Champions
Students in the upper grades annually participate in the Knowledge Masters Competition, the National Geographic Geography Bee and the Johns Hopkins University Talent Search. Since 2009, PTPS teams have been Knowledge Masters National Fifth Grade Champions four times by demonstrating excellence in American and world history, geography, literature, math, science and fine arts. In 2012 PTPS placed first in the sixth grade division.
National Geographic Geography Bee
In the last eight years PTPS has sent 4 students to the prestigious Connecticut Geography Bee
. This honor begins as all of our fourth and fifth grade students participate in the preliminary rounds in each class. The field is narrowed to ten competitors and the semi-finalists compete for the title of school champion. The school champions throughout the state take a qualifying exam and the top 100 scorers compete in the state-wide Geography Bee with other students from grades 4-8. We are very proud of our elementary school students who have earned the honor to compete at the state level.
Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Talent Search
Annually, the majority of PTPS students score in the top 5% nationally
and qualify for the CTY
Talent Search. In 2012 75% of our students qualified for this academic recognition.
The Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins Univerisity praised Pear Tree Point School stating, “Participating at high levels in the annual CTY Talent Search reflects upon the school's academic quality, student abilities, and teacher talent. It also reflects upon the school leadership that encourages students to seek out educational challenges beyond traditional school walls. It's a mark of quality for which your school can be justly proud. Congratulations from all of us at CTY, and best wishes for continued academic success.”
